With the growing number of New Schools and the New
Art Instructors that are just starting their careers, a few
things that will help you get started off right.
Note:
Think Global, buy Local.
If
we are the closest clay supplier to you, please give us a
chance to help! We will have the lowest prices on clay, glazes,
kilns, wheels, etc... Try us!
1
If you don't know much about clay, don't sweat it.
We've given many crash courses on pottery.
2
Don't wait till the last minute to place your order.
We know getting a PO or PA can take a little time and you're
never sure how much you'll have until you have it, but give
us a heads up. Most budgets start at the same time and it
gets REALLY busy here.
3
If you are getting a new School Building, get involved
early! Don't let the Electrician or Architect pick
out your kiln. You will be the one having to deal with it
later. They never order shelves or vents, and seem to think
that because 3rd graders are small they won't need a very
big kiln. We have kits for new schools that will save you
some time and headaches once you get into your classroom.
4 Because
budgets are tight, corners get cut to save
money and it starts with the Art Department. They give you
23cents per student and say "Go get some clay and stuff".
Unfortunately there are no published guidelines that I can
find on Art Materials put out by Arkansas or the surrounding
states. HOWEVER there are Federal
Guidelines for ALL TEACHERS in ALL STATES public
or private that must be followed, especially for grades K-6.
We have mini workshops covering this, and other topics such
as Kiln Firing. If you are not sure what you are doing. Call
me. 479-521-3181
Warning:
If your tempted to buy a gallon of clear glaze (cheaper) and
add a little ceramic stain for color, thinking you are saving
money, don't. Your not saving any money and you can't. Read
this.
